Reciprocal IVF
Reciprocal IVF is a fertility option where one partner contributes or donates the eggs that will be used to form embryos, while the other partner assumes the role of carrying the pregnancy.
The partner who donates the eggs initiates the IVF process by undergoing ovarian stimulation with fertility medications to generate multiple egg follicles. Once these follicles reach maturity, a brief egg retrieval procedure is performed to extract the developed eggs from the ovaries. Subsequently, these mature eggs are fertilized in a laboratory setting using donor sperm to create embryos.
In reciprocal IVF, the partner acting as the gestational carrier undergoes a medication regimen that mimics the natural hormonal conditions required for preparing the uterus for implantation and sustaining a pregnancy. The laboratory closely monitors the progression of embryo development, and ultimately, one of the embryos is transferred into the uterus, with the hope that it will successfully implant and develop into a healthy pregnancy.
